AVAC Youth

About us

Why we run a rescue without a kennel.

AVAC United runs free and low-cost youth sports leagues in the Antelope Valley of California, with equipment, uniforms, and coaching provided so no kid is priced out. Sports are the hook. The program is really about coaching, mentoring, and a consistent adult presence for kids whose families work long hours.

We started with forty kids on a dirt lot in 2011 and a donated bag of used cleats. Today we run soccer, basketball, flag football, and a summer track program for about six hundred children across the Antelope Valley.

Every coach is a trained volunteer, many are former AVAC players who came back. We pay referees and run a paid summer internship for older youth who want to coach younger siblings and neighbors.

Pay-what-you-can is not a gimmick. Our real fee is a good-faith commitment to show up and bring a teammate. We are in this for community, not revenue.

Leadership and governance

We are governed by a five-member volunteer board that meets quarterly. Day-to-day operations are led by a small paid staff. Full bios and our annual Form 990 are available on request.

Financial transparency

Our most recent audit is available upon request at [email protected]. Over 91% of expenses fund direct animal care. Administrative costs run under 6%; fundraising under 3%.
